The repeated trend that was seen all over the red carpet at the MTV MUSIC AWARDS this year was tight, and fitted dressed with corset fitted features for the top of their dresses. Best Dressed

Rhianna
rhianna2.jpg

Rhianna looked beautiful at the award’s as always. with her new smash single SHUT UP AND DRIVE, she rocked the house with not only her music but her fashion as well. Her hair of course looked amazing with her concave bob, ( which is a “very popular hairstyles for fall 2007“) that featured white highlights on black which was a perfect match for her features. Her dress was an amazing hot pink satin that was fitted perfectly to her body. Her Makeup also featured soft naturally colors that made her skin look radiant. I didn’t talk much about this for “fall makeup trends“, but natural colors are always a great look for “fall“.

Worst Dressed

Lil Mama

lilmama2.jpg

lil-mama-vmas-2007-03.jpg

Featured wearing an assemble that made her look like little Bo Peep including a pacifier in her mouth . The dress featured baby purple and pink and generally a dress that should never be worn by anyone. Although her dress was generally a mess , her hair looked outstanding . “Cute Bangs and long layers of straight hair”, which as we know is a great “hairstyle for fall 2007″. Which we really couldn’t see since her hair was covered with a ruffled hood. Take a look at her shoes, and now the socks. Need is say more?

“MINI DRESSES”

In the world of fashion, styles come and go and then come back again. It may take decades, but you’ll see them again. In fashion, designers do, after all, want to offer something new each year to tempt their customers to buy this new fashion. As cuts and styles vary from year to year, hemlines tend to stay more stable, remaining de rigeur for a number of years. Hemline trends tend to follow patterns describing what’s going on on in the world. This is just what happened with the mini dress and skirt revolution of the early 1960’s.

Zero-G Weightless Flight Experience for 10 people

Economies were prospering, we were not yet at war in Vietnam and people were feeling pretty good about life. A young designer named Mary Quant, selling her fashions out of a small shop in the hip Chelsea district of London, put the mini dress and mini skirt on the international fashion map.

It’s generally agreed that the mini dress and skirt began with Mary Quant’s drawings of the short concept in the late 50’s, and were first a fashion must as “street clothes” for the Chelsea hip crowd.

Whether it was an accident or by design, the mini was an instant hit, quickly spreading from London to all over the world.

There are a few other designers, including Andre Courreges, the haute couture French designer, who launched the mini dress and skirt look into the arena of public and international respectability. He associated his white thigh-high “Courreges boot” with his mini dress look thus gaining distinction in his particular take of the Mod statement.

When Diana Riggs showed up in mini dresses on the 1965 hit “The Avengers”, this popularized the mini dress even more, making the Mod fashion style an institution.

Supermodel Jean Shrimpton made headlines when she attended an Australian event wearing a short white mini dress. That and the fact that hat and gloves were not part of her ensemble nearly created a scandal in 1965 Australia.

The rule of thumb defines a mini dress or skirt as one whose hemline is at least seven inches above the knee. This being the case, it was not possible to wear the regular stockings and garters with the mini. Therefore, tights and pantyhose, often in exotic colors, patterns and embellishments became all the rage.

Popularity of the mini didn’t start to fade until the mid 1970’s, when the mid-calf and maxi lengths came (back) into style.

Now here we are in 2007, and the mini dress is once again being flaunted on the runways as a new hot fashion trend. If you’re young and have got the legs for it, these are good looking clothes!

“The Little Black Dress”

When women think of classic fashions, the little black dress, also known as the LBD, is sure to come to mind. Every woman has at least one. Some have many. The little black dress is a wardrobe staple, one of the most versatile pieces of clothing you can own. Spanning the entire breadth of fashion and all seasons and occasions, it’s one piece of clothing no woman should be without. The LBD has stood firm in the fashion industry for the best part of a century.

We have Coco Chanel, of the House of Chanel, to thank for this revolutionary classic. Coming out of the Victorian days of long, layered, voluminous, fussy and uncomfortable fashions, Coco Chanel’s little black dress was a fresh breath of comfort and chic in a single universally appealing garment. Chanel’s creation became an instant and amazing success in the fashion world.

The LBD has adapted throughout the decades to changing hemlines, fabrics, cuts and accessories, not just surviving but reigning on the very short list of women’s must-have clothing. Hollywood luminaries, including Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn immortalized the little black dress.

Your little black dress is a chameleon of fashion, at home and up-to-date in just about any setting, given the right accessories.

WHERE YOU CAN WEAR YOUR LITTLE BLACK DRESS: Cocktail Dress with Sash

o For office wear or a business lunch, low-heeled pumps, an Italian silk scarf and a gold bracelet render an elegant and unfussy appearance. Tres chic!

o A date at the ballet calls for some sparkle – gold or silver jewelry, belts, scarves, hair or shoe ornaments, a beaded or sequined shawl lends a sophisticated feel to the ensemble. Key to a show-stopping look is less is more. A single spectacular pendant diamond necklace and matching earrings will do the trick.

o Clubbing? Here’s an open frontier for the little black dress. Dig out those red stilettos and the jewel-toned belt. Maybe a red lamé bolero as a wrap will finish the look.

o What about shopping? If you’re shopping for jewelry, jackets, coats, shoes or hats, the LBD is the perfect backdrop. It goes with everything, and lets you see the possibilities of whatever fashion partner you have in mind. The fabulous magenta velvet hat just won’t show so well with your pleated plaid skirt. The little black dress offers the latitude of vision you need to see the virtues of that Renaissance-style necklace, or faux-fur jacket that would simply not be apparent with a turquoise linen pantsuit.

The LBD is also great for homecoming dresses, prom if worn with the right accessories, it can make the perfect cocktail and evening dress.
The little black dress flatters every body type, shape and size. Black is slimming and trims many a fault away. The longevity of this fashion item is well deserved and earned. Millions of women have relied on this simple but revolutionary creation of Coco Chanel for almost a century. So, if you don’t have one, get one. Long sleeved, short sleeved or sleeveless, the little black dress is history and the future in one sublime piece of women’s fashion.

“Plus Size Swimwear”

WRITTEN BY A PLUS SIZE WOMEN WHO WANTED ME TO SPREAD THE WORD…….
It is summer time again which means that people are getting ready for swimsuit season. I have been over weight my entire life and as a result hate buying and wearing swimsuits. I have been wearing the same suit for three seasons. I knew that I would have to go shopping for a suit, but I dreaded the thought. I started in a major department store where I had purchased plus size swimwear in the past. They had a very small selection. They still had the same style suit that I have been wearing for three years for sale. It seems that all plus size swimwear looks the same.

I went to another store that specializes in larger sizes. They had a greater selection, however they specialize in the extra large sizes so their smallest size was too big for me. I told the clerk that I thought all plus size swimwear looks the same. She told me that there is a catalog that has a wide variety of many styles to choose from. She said that they are high quality suits in a mid-range price. I told her that I thought it would be hard to know which size to order through the catalog. She said that the sizing chart is very different. They have half sizes as well as quarter sizes. You measure yourself and then use charts to determine your exact size. She looked up the name of the catalog company as well as the website for plus size swimwear and gave me the information.

I tried two other stores but found the same old styles of plus size swimwear. When I arrived home I looked up the website for the catalog that the sales clerk had been telling me about. There were several pictures of the plus size swimwear as well as cover-ups and other beach wear. There was a form to fill out to request a copy of the catalog. swimwear.jpg

When I received the catalog I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful selection to choose from. There were many styles and colors. Each suit featured a design to help camouflage a problem area.

The plus size swimwear did have many different sizes. The measuring chart was very exact. You could write down your measurements and what style suit you wanted and have the company figure out your size, or you could write down your size. I sent in my measurements along with the style swimsuit I wanted. I am very pleased with the style as well as the fit. I will be ordering all of my plus size swimwear from this catalog in the future.

“PRADA”

There’s no question that designer handbags are all the rage these days. They are a must-have accessory for fashion-conscious women around the globe, and can be seen gracing the arms of such diverse consumer groups as Japanese high school girls, European supermodels, and powerful American executives.
prada.jpgI’ve learned that it doesn’t matter so much which designer bag you actually own — simply being in possession of one is enough to get some attention these days.

Although there are lots of designer brand names out there to choose from, I’ve found that I like Prada purses the best. Prada purses come in many different styles, including messenger bags, pochettes, handbags, and backpacks. They are made from a variety of materials, but the most recognizable and popular ones are manufactured from soft black nylon with leather straps and metal hardware accents. And of course no offering from this design house would be complete without the inverted triangle logo.

If you think Prada purses sound rather simple, you’re right. That’s probably why I like them so much. I own one of the messenger-style bags, and have to say that I’m very impressed with it overall. First, the bag is so classic and versatile that it goes with any outfit that I wear. It looks equally as fabulous with a weekend ensemble consisting of jeans and a sweater as it does with my regular workday business suits. Not many other designer handbags give you that much flexibility in choosing your look.

A second reason that I love my Prada purse is because of its durability. Let’s face it: with other designer bags, you have to be extremely cautious about such things as the weather, spills, and stains. For example, I know a few women who refuse to carry makeup or pens in their designer handbags for fear of ruining the lining if a cap happens to fall off. I really wouldn’t have the energy to be constantly vigilant about what I’m putting in my handbag, and think that kind of behavior sort of defeats the purpose of carrying one around. With my black nylon Prada purse, I never have to worry about such things. The material is naturally stain-resistant and is very easy to clean. After nearly two years of constant daily use, my bag looks as good as new.

Finally, I recommend Prada purses because they are a good value compared to other designer handbags. Sure, there are all-leather offerings in Prada’s lineup that retail for more than a thousand dollars, but those are the exceptions rather than the rule. The nylon bags and backpacks are all very affordable — comparatively speaking, of course. I was able to buy a Prada purse and a matching wallet for less than the price of most other designer handbags alone. So if value is as important a factor in your purchasing decision as the quality of the handbag or the name on it, then I suggest you consider going with a Prada purse. Hopefully, you’ll end up enjoying your new bag as much as I’ve enjoyed mine!

“BAGGY JEANS”

Bluejeans have been in style for as long as I can remember. Certainly, they have been in style for my whole life. Although the style has changed from time to time, with bell bottoms coming and going and jeans getting tighter or looser, in general all the styles have seem to fit well. That is the whole point in blue jeans after all – they have this timeless good look to them based on comfort and cut. That is why the current style seems so silly to me.

I just cannot understand the baggy jeans look. Oh sure, I’ve worn somewhat baggy jeans before, but they were comfortable. That was the whole point after all. Baggy jeans, at least the way they used to be, were not ridiculously huge but just big enough to feel comfortable on you. The idea was that if you look comfortable, you feel comfortable, and people feel comfortable looking at you. But the baggy jeans of today are just ridiculous. I have seen baggy men’s jeans so big that people wearing them have to constantly hold onto them around the belt. If they let go, the jeans will fall down around their ankles. I have seen baggy women’s jeans that are made so large, and styled in such a way, that you cannot tell whether they are jeans or a denim skirt.

I have even seen people wearing designer jeans that are many sizes too large for them. Now what, I ask you, is the point of that? The whole thing with designer jeans is that they are supposed to be custom tailored to fit you as well as possible. If you are just wearing them as baggy jeans, all you are doing is wasting your money. After all, if you want jeans that don’t fit you right and hang down around your ankles, you can get any cheap pair of jeans you want as long as it is huge.

I thought baggy jeans would go the way of Hammer pants in a few years, but I guess I was wrong. They seemed like such a silly idea that I could not imagine people wearing them for a long time. I thought the teenagers who wore baggy jeans today would soon laugh at themselves and wonder how they could’ve gotten into a style that was so ridiculous. I guess that is how it is to be that age, though. Teens will do anything to fit in.

“LUCKY BRAND JEANS”

It seems to me that jeans never fit quite right. It has always seemed like a waste of money to buy expensive blue jeans when they don’t work any better for me than the cheap ones do. I’ve tried everything from Levi’s blue jeans to Wal-Mart, and nothing works. I think it has to do with the shape of my body. You see, I have a long pelvis. All the jeans that I get seem to ride too low on me, or to ride up in the crotch.

The best fit that I have found is a pair of lucky brand jeans. I had almost given up entirely on all of blue jean kind when I found them last week at the mall. They were on the remaindered rack. It seems that the lucky brand denim jeans that I had found were slightly irregular. It is a good thing too, or I never would have bought them. I would not care if lucky brand jeans were the most famous brand in the world. I still would not pay what they ask for them normally. At least I would not have before. Now, things are different. I know how well this one particular style of lucky brand jeans fits on me.

lucky-brand.jpgUnfortunately, one pair of blue jeans alone is just not going to cut it. That is why I am going to the lucky brand jean outlet next week. I do not understand why anyone, once he or she has picked out the style of pants that he or she likes, would buy them at a normal store. If you can drive a few miles and buy your lucky brand jeans at one half the price, why not stock up at the outlet store? I guess that people who buy designer jeans are not the most practically minded people. They like to show off the fact that they can waste their money on bluejeans, so many do not like to buy them cheap.

I know that the lucky brand jeans are good because, for the very first time in my life, I have gotten a compliment on my pants. Maybe it is the fact that I always wear extremely worn, patched, and threadbare trousers, but no one has ever had a nice thing to say about my pants before. Now that I am wearing the lucky brand jeans, however, one of my best friends told me that I look cute. And she is a girl, so her opinion counts!

“Fashion Magazines”

Most women have some degree of interest in fashion, from just wanting to stay “modern”, if not quite up to date, to those of us with more than a passing fancy, wanting to know what the latest must have items are. If you’re one with a passion for fashion, fashion magazines offer a world of window shopping right from a cozy chair at home. If it’s a rainy day, so much the better!

Some people – un-fashionistas – complain that there are too many ads in fashion magazines. However, those of us who are into fashion, want to buy or at least see what these ads are selling. Therefore, to the fashion-conscious person, ads become content! Some of these ads have pull-apart pages revealing a whiff of the latest designer fragrances, while others contain tiny tubes of lotion. Now who wouldn’t enjoy an ad like that? Ads for designer clothing can provide little mini fantasy vacations, allowing you to imagine wearing that to the beach while vacationing in Greece.

Fashion magazines do show what’s on the cutting edge of fashion, and if you can’t quite afford to buy these originals, at least you know the style will be coming down the line to a regular department store soon.

If you study fashion magazines, you begin to get a sense of how trends work. For example, in the latest issue you see that silk scarves are everywhere, used as fashion accessories tied about the neck, as belts and headbands. All you need to do to get a jump on this trend is stock up on scarves, finding your own imaginative way to make a fashion statement.

You’ll also find interesting features in fashion magazines, such as interviews with celebrities, articles on the latest hair styling products and hair styles. Make up is another popular topic. Lipstick colors change by the season, as do eye shadows, as manufacturers vie with one another to produce color combinations suited to the newest clothing colors.

Shoes, handbags and jewelry are also seasonally directed, with heel heights going up and down, handbags getting bigger, then smaller and costume jewelry changing on a monthly basis.

Even the costumes you see in fashion magazines which you know you wouldn’t wear on a bet, are still entertaining as you peruse the photo, wondering who besides the model could pull this off as regular street wear.

Did I mention that most of the big name fashion magazines are hundreds of pages per issue? Yes, indeed, you’ve got at least an afternoon’s entertainment ahead of you, and you’re likely to learn at least a few new fashion tidbits you lacked before!

plus-size.jpg

“Plus Size Shopping”

Just because you are a plus sized woman doesn’t mean you can’t wear the latest dress styles. It used to be that dress styles in unflattering colors and styles for plus sized women were the norm. Not so now, a plus sized lady, my not have as many clothing choices as her more slender sisters but she still has excellent options. Come with me and I will show where to find the stores that have the dress styles plus sized ladies want. One of the cheapest places to purchase plus sized clothing is Wal-Mart. I know the name has a stigma attached to it, but if you have to look closely, you will usually find at least one or two dress styles you’d like and would want to buy.

Hot Topic has a sister store called Torrid. It’s more expensive than Wal-Mart but has a selection that can’t be beat. You can find dress styles in a Goth, edgy sexy look; at a middle of the road price. This store also has reasonably price foundation garments so critical in getting that put together look. What ever is in fashion this store has it.

Fashion Bug Plus is another leader in the clothing market for curvy girls. Their dress styles tend to be on the fancier side. They also have plus sized ladies undergarments but the quality of the goods were not up to my standards. In addition, Fashion Bug’s prices are a little high, and sometimes the fabric is dry clean only. I will say though, I have found some of my best closet gems in this store.

If you live in a larger city you may be in luck. JC Penny’s plus sized clothing section has a lot of options but I have noticed this is mainly in more populated cities. Not only are the dress styles in good taste at a good price; they are made with quality in mind. If you’re really lucky, some stores even have a plus sized ladies lingerie section. The bad news is, smaller towns still have slim pickings in plus sized women dress styles at JC Penny.

Lane Bryant is one of the leaders in fashionable clothing for full figured women. They have an elegant appeal that many ladies prefer. The one draw back is that the prices are a little high so if money is a concern it’s best to leave the purchases at this store to special occasions and outfits you cannot live without. This store has foundation garments to go with your outfit. Be sure to look at their catalogue as well as they have different selections in their catalogue than they do in the store. This is because the Lane Bryant Clothing store and the Lane Bryant catalogue are actually two separate companies.

If you look carefully you can find fashionable, plus sized ladies dress styles, in many cities. Lane Bryant
